Police are questioning a woman after the child she was caring for was found unconscious Wednesday morning inside her Midtown apartment and later died.
Officers found Myles Dobson, 4, at a building located at 235 West 48th Street.
He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Sources say the 37-year-old woman who was taking care of him said the boy was alone in the bathroom and that she heard a “thump.”
When she went into the bathroom, she found the child in the empty bathtub.
Sources say doctors found possible signs of abuse on the boy’s body, including bruises.
“It’s a great building. I mean, you know, it’s the first time I’ve ever heard of anything happening here. I can’t believe that’s what happened,” said one building resident.
“That’s really sad. Like, I babysit all the time so it’s really sad to hear that that happened. I’ll be curious to find out what exactly happened,” said another building resident.
The woman the boy was staying with is now being questioned at the Midtown North station house.
Authorities say the boy had been living with her since his mother lost custody and his father was sent to jail in New Jersey.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
The Administration for Children’s Services says it’s also investigating.
