Woman Struck and Killed by SUV in Queens

A woman was struck and killed by an SUV in Queens and the driver is facing charges.

Police say 28-year-old Abel Tinoco is charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

They say he was making a left onto Grand Avenue at 69th Place in Maspeth yesterday morning when he hit 68-year-old Angela Hurtado.

Police found her lying on the ground with injuries to the head and body.

Hurtado was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Witnesses say it’s a dangerous intersection.

“This is not the first time. This is like a couple of times before, it’s happened too,” said one witness.

“They’re gonna lower the speed limit and let’s see how far it’ll go. I hope it works because too many people are getting killed for no reason,” said another.

Police say Tinoco was taken into custody at the scene. They say he had a suspended license.
