Fund pays for education of fallen firefighters’ children

As New Yorkers mourned a firefighter who died in the line of duty, a union official said his thoughts and prayers were with the hero’s children.

“I think a statue would cry when you . . . see the faces of the children,” said Al Hagan, president of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association.

Donations are being sought for the daughters of Lt. Gordon Ambelas, Giovanna, 5, and Gabriella, 8, as they suffer with the tragic loss of their heroic father.

The Silver Shield Foundation helps children of police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty with the cost of their education.

Donations can be made to: Silver Shield Foundation, 870 United Nations Plaza, 1st Floor, New York, NY, 10017.
