Restaurant owner accused of stealing tips gets off-key serenade

A Bronx restaurant owner claims he’s a victim of vigilante justice — by a labor union armed with off-key musicians!

Businessman Manuel Antonio Liberato says members of the Laundry Workers Center United stormed his Mount Hope restaurant Liberato in April wielding drums, a trombone and clarinets and “playing deafening, off-key, and disruptive noise specifically and intentionally designed to torment patrons,” according to his new Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit.

Liberato says their claims that he discriminates against women and cheats workers out of tips are completely unfounded.

He wants unspecified damages plus a court order preventing the protesters from “using a bull horn or playing loud music” in his establishment.

But Virgilio Oscar Aran, head of the union, said “any activity we have taken in accordance with the law.”

He added that in addition to wage theft charges Liberato managers sexually harassed female underlings including one boss who slapped at a worker’s breast.
