Severed arm found in Long Island yard: police

Long Island police are investigating whether a severed arm found in a Hempstead front yard Wednesday is related to a woman’s partially dismembered body that was discovered in a parking lot in Bay Shore.

The arm was found on the grass on Webb Avenue at about 2 p.m., according to Hempstead police.

The gruesome discovery came one day after Suffolk County police were investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in a municipal parking lot on Gibson Street in Bay Shore, about 20 miles away.

Those remains were found by two people who were walking to the ferry terminal nearby.

That discovery prompted Suffolk County police to search the nearby Gilgo Beach area, where human remains were found in 2011.

Police said that there are no known links between the Bay Shore body and Gilgo, but that they were investigating as a precaution.

The chilling Gilgo Beach discoveries were made by authorities hunting a serial killer. They found the remains of eight possible victims in the brush along Ocean Parkway.
