Sculptor Faces Possible Eviction From Midtown Home

A Manhattan artist is facing eviction from the Midtown apartment he has called home for four decades.

Alexander Ney is a world-renowned sculptor whose collection includes more than 5,000 pieces, some of which are valued around $ 30,000.

Now there is a dispute over whether his apartment is rent-stabilized.

The landlord tells NY1 despite what the tenant says, the building is not rent-regulated and the artist owes more than $ 100,000.

Ney believes the proceedings are not necessarily about the back rent.

“Manager come to me some years ago, he said that Alex I would like to have this apartment we will divide it into small apartments, all of them will rent for as much as you pay for two falls,” Ney said.

Ney and his family are currently working with the city’s Human Resources Administration and Adult Protective Services to try and stop the evictions.
