NYC airport hit with a bad ‘case’ of crabs

New Yorkers have crabs!

A cluster of live crabs escaped from a small canister in a plane’s cargo bin at LaGuardia Airport Thursday night, delaying passengers flying to Charlotte, North Carolina, for nearly half an hour, ABC News reported.

Flight 890 departed at 7:25 p.m. instead of 6:59 p.m., after airline staff scrambled to sweep out the loose crustaceans, according to The Charlotte Observer.

“They were small, not Alaskan King crabs,” U.S. Airways spokesperson Josh Freed told the newspaper, adding that there were “a decent number of them.”

“Can’t make this stuff up. Flight delayed cuz live crabs got loose in cargo bin. Have to catch crabs before we can board plane. Seriously,” Megan Hughes wrote.

“Was just informed our flight is delayed because a shipment of crabs escaped in the cargo hold #crabsonaplane,” wrote Blake Z. Larson.
