The New York City Police Department is investigating after a bear cub was found dead Monday in Central Park.
Police say an employee from the Central Park Conservancy found the 3-foot-long cub under a bush sometime before noon.
Authorities say there were signs of trauma on the cub’s body, leading them to suspect animal cruelty played a role in the death.
The Bronx Zoo is conducting a necropsy to determine the cause of death.
It’s unclear where the bear came from as no local zoos have reported missing bears.
Authorities say the bear’s body was likely dumped in the park.
