NYPD: Shootings Across City Hit Record Lows Over Last Couple of Months

The city says shootings across the five boroughs have hit record lows over the last couple of months.

Police Commissioner William Bratton says there were 135 shootings in August and 96 in September.

Those are the lowest numbers for those two months since the New York City Police Department started compiling shooting data in 1993.

Despite the drop, the total number of shootings is up slightly from last year, with 889 reported since September 2013.
