A funeral for Avonte Oquendo will be held on Saturday.
The service for the autistic teenager who went missing last fall will be held in Greenwich Village. His remains were found last week washed up along the Queens shore.
The family’s attorney, David Perecman, has also confirmed that Avonte’s mother, Vanessa Fontaine, has filed a lawsuit against the NYPD in Manhattan Supreme Court.
She’s demanding video evidence and internal records regarding her son’s disappearance.
Since Avonte’s disappearance, Perecman has filed a Freedom of Information Law request on two separate occasions, but both were denied.
Now the family is asking the court to order the NYPD to comply with the FOIL request.
Avonte went missing after he ran out of his school in Long Island City in early October.
According to Perecman, he has seen video of Avonte passing a school safety agent twice before leaving his classroom.
He says it’s possible the safety agent may have been distracted while dealing with another child.
