Construction on the long-promised roller hockey rink on Shore Front Parkway will begin this fall, officials said.

City Councilman Eric Ulrich said he has provided $ 600,000 for the project, which was delayed after Hurricane Sandy destroyed large sections of the Rockaway boardwalk. The rink will replace the existing one at Beach 108th St., which was also damaged in the storm.

Queens Parks Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski said the agency made makeshift repairs so the current rink could be used for the 2013 season and other events. She said residents and hockey players helped design the new facility.

The new rink will feature an asphalt surface and lighting for use at night. Upgrades for the area around the rink include new drinking fountains and seating.

“This will be a state-of-the-art recreational space and is just the latest investment in our commitment to rebuilding a stronger, more resilient Rockaway,” said Ulrich (R-Ozone Park).
