Ex-NYPD Chief of Department Joseph Esposito will be the new head of the city’s Office of Emergency Management, Mayor de Blasio announced Friday.
De Blasio said he appointed Esposito — who rose from Crown Heights beat cop to become the NYPD’s highest-ranking uniformed officer — because of his four decades of experience.
Esposito — a defender of the controversial stop-and-frisk policy when he was at the NYPD — thanked God and his “close second” the mayor for giving him the chance to run the agency, which develops plans for dealing with emergencies ranging from natural disasters to terror attacks.
He takes over from Joseph Bruno, a Bloomberg appointee.
