Pyrotechnicians are building 40,000 firework effects ahead of Friday’s 4th of July celebration.
The work is happening at a secret location, but the fireworks will go off at the Brooklyn bridge.
It’s the first time since 2008 the show has been held on the East River.
The fireworks designer says he’s creating a more compact, “high-definition” show for the narrower space.
“We have some interesting fireworks that are just designed to be on the bridge to meet the scale of the Brooklyn Bridge and that is just going to be fantastic with these two cascades. One of the cascades is going to be a rainbow—1,600 feet from tower to tower—and look for these stars and stripes. We’re going to make the flag drape down in fireworks, coming off from the bridge with swirling blue waves above and bursts of blue from all the barges,” says fireworks show designer Gary Souza.
The show will also include traditional American songs from performers like Idina Menzel, of “Frozen” fame.
The pre-show starts around 7:30 p.m. on Friday and the fireworks start around 9:20 p.m.
