They pledged to help other people at all times and when a Utah boy scout troop spotted a woman pinned by a rolled over SUV, that’s just what they did.

Five Varsity Scouts, aged 15 to 17, stepped in to hoist a flipped Ford Explorer so rescuers could pull the trapped woman free, according to a report.

Unfortunately, 60-year-old Maria Sandoval later died in the hospital of her injuries, despite the best efforts of those who came to her aid.

“It brought tears to my eyes to see the faces of these 15-17-year-old boys as we lifted the SUV high enough off the ground and held it long enough, so the rescuer could pull her to safety,” Scout leader R.L. Peay said in a statement released by the Boy Scouts of America.

Troop 839 was en route to scouting camp on Wednesday morning when they came up on the overturned Explorer on the side of the highway near Mona.

Peay said he and his scouts realized passengers were still trapped inside and offered their help.

Three other passengers were also in the SUV when it crashed, according to the report. The male driver and one of the passengers, an 11-year old girl, were flown to regional hospitals, according to the report. The third passenger, a 16-year old girl, was released to her stepmother, state police said.

The driver reportedly lost control of the Explorer when the tread separated from the right rear tire. The vehicle went into the median and rolled several times before landing on its top, police said.
