De Blasio praises himself throughout endorsement speech

But enough about me.

Mayor de Blasio used nearly his entire speech — meant to endorse New York attorney general Eric Schneiderman for his reelection bid — to list his mayoral accomplishments.

De Blasio pat himself on the back for 11 minutes of the 14 minute speech delivered at Brigde Street AME Church in Brooklyn on Sunday.

The humble mayor mentioned the 51,000 pre-K seats he provided, how he doubled the number of after-school programs, expanded paid sick leave, and created thousands affordable housing units — all before he even mentioned the attorney general’s name.

It wasn’t until the 11 minute mark that de Blasio finally got around to the point of his speech.

“Some people in Albany have been an example of what we need from our leaders and I want to talk about our attorney general Eric Schneiderman because he has been exemplary,” de Blasio said.

“If you believe in the things I have just laid out that we’re doing here in New York City… if you wish to have more leaders who share these values and acted on them, pay attention now to the leader you have in the state of New York right now as your attorney general who is acting on those values each and every day,” he added.

Schneiderman then got up in front of the African Methodist Episcopal congregation and spoke about justice.

“There is nothing spoken of, exalted more, and admonished to follow than justice – do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with your God,” Schneiderman said.

“This is what we are admonished to do and when I became Attorney General, it seemed clear to me that equal justice under the law is a pretty good focus.”

Schneiderman is running against Republican challenger John Cahill.
