A woman was stabbed to death allegedly by her son Sunday evening after a furious bout of arguing at their Brooklyn home, sources said.
Christian Holloman, 20, was arrested Sunday for allegedly repeatedly stabbing his mother, Iman Thomas, 42, who was found dead in the backyard of their Flatlands house at around 6 p.m., according to law-enforcement sources.
“I saw him the other day. He looked intense,” said Holloman’s former classmate Shemer Pradere. “He changed. He became distant and a loner.”
Pradere said that Holloman had been in and out of trouble, but that he was shocked by the slaying.
Neighbors said that the mother and son had been arguing loudly the entire weekend and that the mom used drugs.
“They were a mess,” one neighbor said. “A dysfunctional family to a tee.”
Thomas’ decent into drugs came after she was profiled by The New York Times as one of its Neediest Cases in 2008.
She was given a grant to help get off welfare and said she wanted to become a pharmacy tech.
“I have three kids, and believe me, it’s hard,” she told the Times. “You have to let them know that ‘I’m trying to do something to better our lives.”
But, according to neighbors on East 43rd Street, the grant money did no good.
“She put him through hell and didn’t raise him right,” a neighbor said.
