Woman struck by car after dog was run over

A woman was struck by a hit-and-run driver Friday night in Brooklyn after she ran to the aid of her beloved dog — who was fatally struck by another car just moments earlier, police said.

The 31-year-old woman was walking her dachshund near Avenue Z and West 2nd Street in Gravesend at 11:20 p.m. when the rambunctious wiener dog darted into the street and was run over by a car, cops said.

The dog’s horrified owner ran to comfort her mortally wounded pooch when a second vehicle slammed into her before speeding off down Avenue Z, according to authorities.

First responders rushed the woman to Lutheran Medical Center, where she’s listed in stable condition.

Police are looking for the driver of the black Jeep Wrangler that struck the heartbroken animal lover and kept going.

A description of the vehicle that killed the dachshund was not immediately available.
