Rent break eligiblity expands for seniors

The maximum annual income level of seniors eligible for rent breaks will rise from $ 29,000 to $ 50,000 under legislation signed by Mayor de Blasio Thursday.


The legislation, to take effect July 1, will benefit New Yorkers 62 and older when they apply for the Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption program.


Seniors who participate in the program are able to maintain their current rent for two years if they live in a rent-regulated apartment.
