Suspected Robber Fatally Shot by Retired NYPD Officer

A suspected robber is dead after being shot by a retired police officer in Brooklyn Tuesday morning.

Police say it all began when two men tried to rob the driver of a Mercedes near Linden Boulevard and Georgia Avenue in East New York.

Witnesses say when they weren’t happy with the amount of money he was offering, the driver tried to offer his car to diffuse the situation, and then shot one of the suspects, identified as Manuel Ocampo, 18.

He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The second robbery suspect fled the scene but was later picked up by police for questioning.

Police Commissioner William Bratton says the retired police officer was working as a security guard for a waste recycling plant.

Sources say he left the force in 2003.
