Vic Nicastro/New York Daily News Noel Estevez endured months of abuse before fatally stabbing his former friend. The 14-year-old boy charged with fatally knifing his former best friend outside of their Bronx school is racked with sorrow, his mother said on Saturday.
“He’s sad. He’s hurt,” Noel Estevez’s mother, Maria, said outside of the Horizon Juvenile Center in Mott Haven, where the boy is being held.
Noel was charged with murder after he allegedly plunged a kitchen knife multiple times into the chest of Timothy Crump, 14, on Wednesday. The slaying outside of Intermediate School 117 came after Noel endured months of abuse from Crump and his eighth-grade cronies, teachers and Noel’s mother said. Noel tried to commit suicide last month.
Maria Estevez showed up at the juvenile lock-up a day after she was released from Rikers Island, where she was being held on drug charges. She had told the Daily News from behind bars that her bipolar son was convinced Crump was bent on killing him. “I blame everybody, but right now I can’t really talk because my nerves are not that great,” she said Saturday, her voice quivering.
