The family of the young teen who drowned in the Bronx River has said it wants to make sure nothing like this happens again.
Authorities say 13-year-old Erickson Villa was pronounced dead shortly after being pulled from the water near Starlight Park Friday.
Police say Villa and his 13-year-old cousin may have jumped in to go swimming, even though signs in that particular area prohibited it.
Now Villa’s friends and family say they plan to meet with City Council members to discuss plans to build a fence around the area, in hopes of preventing another tragedy.
“We are going to invite them to come and sit down. We don’t know exactly who is the main person or agency that puts up that fence. That is why we are in talks, ongoing talks with them, to see who is responsible to put up that fence. When we sit down, we’ll find out who and we will see what can be done,” said Reverend Joel Buaza of Bridges Community Church.
The other victim—who’s identity has not been released—remains in critical condition at Saint Barnabus hospital.
