Bronx Man Found Shot to Death Inside His Woodlawn Home

A Bronx man was found dead Friday night inside his Woodlawn home.

Investigators say friends found 36-year-old Jercar Brooks dead a little after 8 p.m. Friday after they went to check on him.

Brooks’ family had asked the friends to go to his apartment on East 233rd Street near Woodlawn Cemetery after not hearing from him for a day.

Police say he had been shot twice.

“I was in shock. I never expecting that this going to happen to him. Talk about a surprise,” said Jose Herrera, who knew the victim.

“He’s a nice guy. Three kids, he had. I’m so sorry for the kids and the mom,” said Simon Rapaj, the building’s superintendent. “I see him a couple days ago and I talk with him. I had to go to work something in his apartment, and now look at this now has happened with him.”

Police say surveillance video from Brooks’ building shows him entering the building with another man.

Later in the video, the other man is seen leaving alone.

Police say Brooks was a father of three.

No arrests have been made.
