Cruise Ship Safely Docks After Losing Steering Power on Hudson

A Norwegian cruise liner is now safely docked after getting stuck in the Hudson River Sunday morning.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the Norwegian Breakaway cruise ship reported having issues with its propulsion system around 7:45 a.m.

That made the ship harder to steer and unable to dock safely until tides changed.

Tugboats were also needed to pull the ship in to the dock.

Passengers described the scene.

“There was an issue with the propeller, which they were able to bring us all the way up to the dock, but they weren’t actually able to bring us into the dock,” said one passenger.

“Oh everybody was freaking out, who was pushing people, saying get back on the elevator. It was terrible. I mean my trip was fine, but the ending really did it,” said another passenger.

The U.S. Coast Guard says all passengers made it off the ship safely.

An investigation is under way.
