Two passengers and a pilot are feared missing after a hot air balloon reportedly struck a power line and caught fire at a balloon festival in Virginia Friday night.
Witnesses told police that the massive balloon hit the line just before 8 p.m. at Meadow Event Park in Doswell, catching fire before ascending into the sky.
Some people were reportedly seen jumping from the balloon as it soared higher into the air, Carolina County sheriff officials told WRIC.
“At this point we’ve found no wreckage, no confirmation of injuries or deaths,” said Virginia State Police Spokeswoman Corinne Geller around 10 p.m. “We’ll continue through the night until we find the wreckage.”
Geller said witnesses reported the balloon crashing somewhere northeast of Meadow Event Park.
Horrifying photos posted by witnesses online show a balloon flying away in the distance with a massive fire blazing directly underneath.
Due to approaching bad weather, not immediately suspected of playing a factor in the disaster, authorities are strictly searching the area by ground.
The Mid-Atlantic Balloon Festival is scheduled at the park from Friday night into the weekend.
