Man in Custody After Allegedly Stabbing, Killing Girlfriend in West Village

A 69-year-old man is in custody after police say he stabbed his 59-year-old girlfriend in the West Village.

Officers responded to a 911 call around 6 p.m. Thursday about a victim with multiple stab wounds to the chest.

Police say the woman died at the scene of cardiac arrest.

Neighbors say the suspect was in a daze when he was put into the police car.

Neighbor: He didn’t say nothing. He just got into the car and that was it.

Q: He didn’t say anything at all? Was he calm? Cool?

Neighbor: Yeah, he was calm. He didn’t look like he was nervous. To me, he looked like he don’t even know what he did or something.

“Very sweet people. Shock! Shock!” said another neighbor.

“I guess I heard a little bit of the story, so there’s a history there,” said a third. “So I don’t think this is a random act or an act of violence toward a stranger.”

Police had not identified the victim or the suspect as of midnight Thursday.
