NYPD: Man Suspected in Deadly East Village Attack in Custody

Police say a person of interest wanted in connection with the beating death of a Manhattan grandfather has been taken into custody.

Loved ones have set up a memorial with flowers and candles at the site where 68-year-old Wen-hui Ruan was beaten on Friday.

His daughters were overcome with grief Monday as they spoke about their father’s life. They say Ruan was devoted to his three children and five grandchildren.

He retired four years ago and spent his days exercising, playing chess and picking up his grandchildren from school.

Relatives say his murder has rocked their entire family and the community.

“This stupid guy killed my dad. Also at the same time he killed all of my family’s hearts. All of my family never sleep in these few days. We can’t eat, we can’t sleep,” said Ruan’s daughter.

“We are very heartbroken and we are very angry at this man he should come forward and responsible for what he did,” said another family member.

There is no word yet on charges.
