Police Shoot, Kill Suspected Pharmacy Robber on Upper East Side

The New York City Police Department is investigating a deadly police-involved shooting this afternoon on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Police say officers were pursuing a suspect who had robbed a pharmacy on 68th Street and Second Avenue.

Police say officers followed the suspect to the area of East 96th Street and the FDR Drive where shots were fired.

The suspected robber was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a gun was recovered.

Sources say it appears the man was tracked down after the robber was given a dummy pill bottle that had GPS tracking.

Last year, the NYPD announced they were starting a program that would put GPS trackers in pill bottles because of the uptick in robberies at pharmacies.

Police are now investigating whether the suspect was responsible for a string of drug store robberies in the area.
