The city’s beaches are open for business.
Today marks the official start to beach season as life guards take their posts along the city’s 14 miles of beaches.
A lot of people were out there early today, despite a lack of sunshine.
“Every morning we come out here around seven o’clock and we walk, and we haven’t been able to do it a lot because of cold, ice, whatever. So beach season means warm weather, and we’ll be out here using the boardwalk,” said one beach-goer.
“Believe it or not, some of us own jet skis and we’d like to be out on the water, but it’s too cold,” another said.
All city beaches will be staffed with lifeguards from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Labor Day.
And the Health Department has launched a new texting service that can give you a heads up on openings, closings, and water quality.
