George H.W. Bush, a Yale grad, joined Mayor Bloomberg Thursday in Cambridge, Mass., for Harvard’s graduation.
The 89-year-old former President donned a crimson robe for the festivities, but his pair of technicolor socks managed to poke through underneath.
Bush will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree at the school’s 363rd commencement exercises.
“It feels great. It’s a great honor,” he told the Harvard Crimson.
Bloomberg will deliver the commencement address. The former New York mayor is a Johns Hopkins alum and received his MBA from Harvard Business School.
Franklin sang the National Anthem to kick off the ceremony.
Bush had been honored by Harvard earlier in May, when the Kennedy museum awarded him a 2014 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award.
The 41st President didn’t attend the affair on May 4 in Boston, but his granddaughter, Lauren Bush Lauren, accepted on his behalf.
Bush and his wife, Barbara, are spending the summer at their compound in Kennebunkport, Maine.
