WASHINGTON — Embattled Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki should not resign or be fired, the chairman of a key Senate committee said Thursday.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee, rejected the idea of ousting Shinseki with a decisive “no” in an interview with a Daily News reporter to air on C-SPAN.
Sanders, a liberal independent from Vermont, cited department achievements in reducing disability-claim backlogs and homelessness, as well as computerizing a paper-driven bureaucracy.
