A motorist speeding along a Bruckner Expressway overpass plowed through a guardrail and fell 25 feet onto the highway below, authorities and stunned witnesses said Friday.
The unidentified driver of the black sedan is clinging to life at a local hospital.
The scene — which appeared to be ripped from an action movie — unraveled on E. Tremont Ave. above the Bruckner Expressway in the Bronx at about 10:45 p.m.
Witnesses said the driver lost control of the sedan at the overpass. The car fishtailed, vaulted the sidewalk and smashed through a pedestrian fence and the guardrail before plummeting onto a northbound lane — leaving a gigantic hole, witnesses said.
Miraculously, the car didn’t land on any of the vehicles on the lanes below.
Lamont Phifer, 29, heard the car careen into the guardrail from up the street.
“I looked down the big hole,” he said. “There was fire … the car was demolished.
“He didn’t hit no cars, thank God,” Phifer said. “He could have killed a lot of people.”
The lone driver suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment, authorities said.
