Jack Coleman signs on to reprise role in ‘Heroes Reborn’

NBC may be rebooting “Heroes,” but there will be at least one familiar face on board.

Actor Jack Coleman has signed on to reprise his role as the bespectacled secretive agent Noah Beckett in “Heroes Reborn,” Deadline first reported.

Coleman, now 56, had been best known for playing the openly gay son of an oil tycoon on “Dynasty” 25 years before he was drafted for the first “Heroes” series.

He lent some humanity to the superhero drama as the leader of a shadowy government organization hunting people with powers — even as he tried to protect his own mutant daughter, the cheerleader played by Hayden Panettiere in the original “Heroes.”

And though Panettiere has said she won’t be back for the 13-episode do-over miniseries, creator Tim Kring kept part of the family intact.

As an actor, Jack has tremendous range,” series creator Tim Kring told the Daily News in 2007. ”The part called for someone who could play both a delicious villain, and a loving and caring father equally with pure, unprejudiced conviction.”

Coleman parlayed his high-profile run on “Heroes” into a recurring role on ABC’s “Scandal” and “Castle,” and NBC’s “The Office.”

The Peacock Network has high hopes for “Heroes Reborn,” set to air in 2015, banking on recapturing the magic of the show’s lauded premiere season.

“The enormous impact ‘Heroes’ had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening,” NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke said in February.

“Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment.”

“Heroes” was cancelled after its fourth season, by which time fans and critics had deserted the show in droves.
