A suspect who was arrested Monday for selling drugs in Queens escaped from police custody and hit a cop with his vehicle, injuring the lawman, police said.
The cop, a Queens narcotics detective, was pursuing the suspect, Bryan McMenamin, 38, who had managed to get behind the wheel of a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Cops would not say how or where McMenamin (photo) got away. During his flight, near the intersection of Cooper Ave. and 59th St. in Glendale, at about 6:55 p.m., McMenamin rammed the SUV into the detective, causing a leg injury, cops said.
McMenamin ditched the Jeep in the Ridgewood Post Office parking lot, on Myrtle Ave. at Decatur St., a short drive from where he struck the cop. He remained at large as of early Tuesday. The detective was in stable condition at Long Island Jewish Hospital.
