Subway crimes decline amid NYPD crackdown

Crime in the subway has plunged this year amid an NYPD crackdown on quality of life crimes, according to new data released Friday.

Felony crime underground dropped 9 percent through the end of May, according to the NYPD.

The trend was led by an almost 26 percent decrease in robberies this year.

There were 251 robberies at the end of May last year, but only 186 over the same period this year.

Grand larcenies have also slid 4 percent, authorities said.

Under top cop Bill Bratton, arrests of panhandlers, peddlers selling items like churros, and subway breakdancers has spiked.

Many of the panhandlers have long rap sheets.
