A bus-tracking app that sends riders the next available bus via text message or a mobile app is coming to Brooklyn and Queens.
Straphangers in Brooklyn and Queens will be able to time their bus trips via smartphone apps, text messages and web services starting March 9, the MTA announced Monday.
The Bus Time program, which riders in the Bronx, Staten Island and Manhattan already use to track above-ground transportation, will be available at another 9,000 stations and 164 routes after the expansion next month.

“As we have seen with train arrival information in the subway, customers appreciate when they know when that train or bus will show up at the station or stop,” said MTA New York City Transit President Carmen Bianco in a statement.
Advocates welcomed the news, which they hope will lead to the installation of far more expensive digital wait-time displays at bus stations throughout the city.

“It’s only possible to do the countdown clocks because the MTA has installed this technology on the buses,” said John Raskin, executive director of the Riders Alliance.
Time-crunched riders can download the free app at bustime.mta.info or get a text message with the next bus in their area by sending the nearest intersection to 511123.
