An early-morning fire sent five people to the hospital Sunday, four of them children.
Firefighters say they were called to 130 Third Avenue in Boerum Hill shortly after 2 a.m.
The fire started on the fifth floor, according to fire officials.
The four children range in age from 5 months to 14 years old.
A 63-year-old woman was also hurt.
Police say they all suffered smoke inhalation.
One man who lives on the fifth floor said firefighters told them to stay inside behind fire doors.
“I look out the windows, and I see all the fire trucks and I see a few ambulances, and then the Fire Department actually knocked on my door within 20 minutes, just telling us just to be safe and stay inside, not to worry, and that they’re taking care of the issue,” he said. “It’s horrible. I really want to know how it started, actually. There’s been other instances of other little fires that happened in this building, nothing to this magnitude.”
One victim, an 8-year-old girl, was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center, while the rest were taken to Methodist Hospital.
Investigators have yet to indicate what may have caused the fire.
