Port Authority Chairman Resigns on Heels of GWB Scandal Report

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Chairman David Samson has resigned in the wake of the scandal involving lane closures at the George Washington Bridge.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie made the announcement at a news conference earlier in the day.

Samson, a Christie appointee, had faced questions about the scandal and whether he had used his political position to boost his law firm.

The lane closures back in September caused massive traffic tie-ups in Fort Lee.

It later emerged that aides to Christie engineered the lane closures, allegedly for political payback against Fort Lee’s mayor.

A report commissioned by Christie cleared the governor of any wrongdoing on Thursday.
