De Blasio Proposes Nine-Year Contract for City Teachers

The de Blasio administration has proposed a nine-year contract for city teachers.

The New York Times says it would be the longest contract in the history of the teachers’ union.

The contract would be backdated to November 1, 2009 and last through 2017, the year de Blasio will face re-election.

People briefed on the talks tell the paper a main sticking point in the negotiations is $ 3.4 billion in retroactive raises that the union is demanding.

City officials say they don’t have the money for the back pay, but the representatives for the teachers’ union say they won’t talk about any other concessions until back pay is resolved.
