The court will rule on whether Nilay Shroff’s landlord and business manager were in the wrong when they cleared out apartment 2D instead of 2B.

What a difference a D makes.

An Upper East Side software maker charges in a lawsuit that his $ 1,700-a-month apartment was stripped almost bare in a bizarre mistake – with a lifetime of belongings shipped to the city dump.

A shocked Shroff returned home from work on Oct. 9, 2013, to discover “the entire contents of his apartment were removed … with the exception of one television and one PS3 game system,” the lawsuit charged.

“Plaintiff lost … clothes, kitchen items, bed, dresser, sofa and other furniture, bathroom items, video games, personal identity information … credit cards … memorabilia, photographs and souvenirs.”

The lawsuit seeks an unspecified amount of money from building owner Goldie Holding Co., management Mautner-Glick Corp. and the as yet unidentified cleaning company.

Shroff was put at risk for identity theft, particularly with the loss of his passport, credit cards and government security clearances, according to the court papers.
