Brooklyn Half Marathon Draws More Than 25,000

Runners hit the pavement today for the 34th annual Brooklyn Half Marathon.

More than 25,000 runners were expected to participate in the race.

“I’ve been here running the half for 30 years, but it’s bigger and better than ever and I think it’s a real testament to just how compelling Brooklyn is,” said Mary Wittenberg of the New York Road Runners.

“It’s a great course—twice around the park and once you’re out, it’s flat all the way down to the water. You end on the boardwalk around Coney Island. You run past iconic rides like the Cyclone and Nathan’s Hot Dogs. It’s just everything that New York has to offer,” said another runner.

The first wave kicked off at 7 a.m. on Eastern Parkway near the Brooklyn Museum.

The second wave of runners began their sprint at 7:45 a.m.

The finish line is along the world-famous Coney Island boardwalk.
