A funeral was held Friday for the toddler who police say was killed by a day care worker in the Bronx.
Family and friends gathered at a church is Morrisania to remember 20-month-old Cardell Williamson.
The young boy died last Friday while in the care of a Bronx woman who runs an in-home day care.
Cardell will be buried Saturday in New Jersey.
His father, Carlyle, said he’s grateful for all the support he’s received during a difficult time.
“I really appreciate them. They put a big memorial up there in front of my house. Everybody showed their love with the candles and visuals and everybody just remembering my child,” Carlyle Williamson said. “My child brought a lot of people together.”
Athena Skeeter, 40, was charged with murder and manslaughter Thursday.
Investigators say she admitted to throwing the toddler to the floor and stepping on him.
The city medical examiner ruled Cardell’s death a homicide, saying he died from blunt force trauma to the head and torso.
Skeeter was licensed by the New York State Department of Health and had been inspected by the city.
