The head of investigations on Rikers Island has stepped down less than a month after a scathing report about violence at the jail complex.
Florence Finkle resigned from leading the Internal Investigative Unit in the Department of Correction Friday.
On August 4, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara released the results of a two-year investigation that found correction officers on Rikers often beat teenage inmates.
The report also said Finkle’s unit was poorly run and often biased in favor of correction officers when responding to complaints about violence.
Her replacement has not yet been announced.
