Judge sides against residents who opposed noisy pub

A Manhattan judge tossed a lawsuit by Greenwich Village residents to block a famous, Prohibition-era pub from reopening because the bar attracted late-night, noisy patrons.

Chumley’s at 86 Bedford St. was a favorite watering hole to literary greats like Norman Mailer and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

In her ruling released Friday, Justice Barbara Jaffe wrote, “In the modern world, some degree of noise, tension and discomfort is the inevitable concomitant of urban life.”

Chumley’s, operated by retired firefighter Jim Miller, shuttered in 2007 for major renovations after operating in the same location since 1922.
