100K Expected to Participate in Climate Change March

Environmentalists are taking to the streets of the city in what is being billed as the largest march in history on global warming.

Organizers say 100,000 people are expected to take part in the People’s Climate March.

The march is set to coincide with the United Nations Climate Summit on Tuesday.

Some big names are expected at the march, including UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.

Mayor de Blasio, Senator Charles Schumer and City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito also say they’ll march.

Participants hope to recapture the momentum lost after the 2009 climate summit in Copenhagen.

World leaders set a goal to prevent the Earth’s temperature from rising 2 degrees Fahrenheit from 20-05 levels but left without a binding treaty.

The People’s Climate March starts on the west side of Central Park at 11:30 a.m. and ends at 11th Avenue near 34th Street.
