More Than 100K Turn Out for Climate Change March

Environmentalists took to the streets of the city in what was billed as the largest march in history on global warming.

More than 1,500 organizations from across the country walked from Manhattan’s Upper West Side to Hell’s Kitchen in the “People’s Climate March.”

Marchers we spoke to say they’re participating to preserve the environment for future generations.

“I’m here for the future of my grandchildren. For the air. For cleaner air. Water. Yeah, because if not, they won’t have anything. What are they going to drink. How are they going to breathe? How are they going to live?” one participant said.

“I think that we need to get to 100 percent green energy and that’s really what we need to do,” another said.

“Just trying to build awareness and trying to inform people to be mindful about climate change,” said a third.

The march comes just before Tuesday’s United Nations Climate Summit, which is expected to bring more than 100 heads of state to New York to discuss the consequences of climate change.
