City comptroller sends de Blasio a warning on open labor contracts

The city’s fiscal chief lit a fire under Mayor de Blasio over the city’s 152 open labor contracts Wednesday — calling it “critical” that they be settled or nearly settled in a little more than four months.

Comptroller Scott Stringer set the deadline for his Democratic ally in City Hall even as de Blasio has been backpedaling over a prior commitment to resolve the bulk of the contracts by June 30, the end of the fiscal year.

“If we do not have a clear resolution of the cost of labor settlements by around June 30, we run the risk of the decision being made for the taxpayers by arbitration panels,” said Stringer.

“We need to get it done by June 30th to maintain the fiscal strength of our city.”
