The Gulfstream plane narrowly missed several buildings, including a nearby YMCA. All four aboard are dead.
Four family members are dead after a small plane crashed and burned near a YMCA gym outside Nashville, Tenn.
The Gulfstream 690C left Grand Bend, Kansas around 2:45 p.m. Monday and was scheduled to land at the John C. Tune airport just before 5 p.m., WTVF-TV reported.
It reportedly missed its first approach at the airfield and was preparing for a second attempt at landing when the plane, with four aboard, crashed into a field behind the Bellevue YMCA about 14 miles south of its destination.

The burning wreckage smoldered after the 5 p.m. crash.
About 300 YMCA members were evacuated from the building as the scene was investigated, a spokesperson said.
The plane was registered to MidKansas Agri Company, the news station reported.
The pilot missed surrounding homes, including the YMCA. But the crash site is “a totally devastated area,” Metro Nashville Fire Chief George Hickey told WTVF.

Hinkey said the pilot made a “hard right bank and into the ground,” thereby avoiding the gym and a nearby retirement home, WSMV-TV reported.
Investigators will examine surveillance video from outside the YMCA, the news station reported. The wreckage spread over about 80 yards, WTVF reported.
The four killed have not been publicly identified and investigators expect the area will be closed for days as the crash scene is examined.
