Michael David Elliot, 40, escaped from Iona Correctional Facility about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
A man serving life behind bars for a quadruple murder escaped from a Michigan prison late Sunday and allegedly abducted a woman before she managed to get away in Indiana, authorities said.
Michael David Elliot, 40, was still on the lam early Monday — hours after authorities discovered the convict was missing from the Ionia Correctional Facility, which is about 40 miles west of Lansing, officials said.
Investigators belive Elliot, who had been locked up in the facility since 1994, abducted a woman nearby using a knife of a box cutter, said the state’s Department of Corrections spokesman, Russ Marlan.

But the woman managed to get away from the man whey they stopped for gas in Elkhart, In., about 130 miles south, just before midnight, Marlan said. The woman called for help, but Elliot — who stands 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 165 pounds — fled before police arrived.
Authorities said they were still looking for the woman’s red 2004 Jeep Liberty that has the license plate number 5FTG55.

Elliot abducted a woman and drove to this Indiana gas station, where the victim got away and called police.
It was not immediately clear how Elliot escaped , but sources told WXMI-TV that prison workers believe he slipped through a hole in a fence.
“Citizens should immediately call 911 if they observe anything suspicious or possibly become aware of the whereabouts of … Elliot,” Marlan said in an email.
Records show Elliot was serving life sentences for first degree murder and had convictions for arson and armed robbery.
The charges stem from the 1993 murder of four people in Gladwin County.

Authorities said the woman hid in this bathroom at an Indiana gas station and called police for help when Elliot drove away.
The violence erupted after Elliot, his two brothers — Chuck and Paul Treece — and another woman plotted to rob a storage unit they believed was filled with drug money, but turned up empty handed.
The armed crew then went to the home of Michael Tufnell, the drug dealer who used the storage unit, and planned to rob a safe, according to WXMI-TV.
Elliot and Chuck Treece went into the house and killed Tufnell, his girlfriend, Vickie Currie, his brother, Bruce Tufnell, and another woman, Kathy Lane.
