David Bar Katz — who discovered Philip Seymour Hoffmanan after his apparent overdose — pays his respects Tuesday to Mimi O’Donnell. Katz apparently plans to take legal action against the National Enquirer over reports that he and the actor were lovers.

The screenwriter who found Philip Seymour Hoffman dead slammed a supermarket tabloid’s claim that he and the doomed actor were lovers as a “vulgar and disgusting lie.”

Speaking for an outraged David Bar Katz, a friend said the National Enquirer ginned-up a bogus interview and the screenwriter intends to take legal action.

“This is a categorical, 100%, vulgar and disgusting lie,” the friend, who asked not to identified, told the Daily News on Wednesday. “Even the National Enquirer should be ashamed. It’s just disgusting. There will be legal action.”

“He never spoke to them,” he said. “This is so far off from reality. We’re calling lawyers now to threaten them appropriately.”

In their story, the National Enquirer claimed Hoffman, who won a leading actor Oscar for “Capote,” fell off the wagon and began shooting up heroin because he was confused over his sexual identity.
