A potential strike at the Long Island Railroad is on hold until at least mid-year.
Conductors, train mechanics and cleaners have been without a contract for more than three years.
Workers are pushing for raises but the Metropolitan Transportation Authority wants a three-year wage freeze.
Union members and the MTA have agreed to more talks in Washington starting next week which means the earliest a strike could happen is July.
The MTA has already rejected the recommendations of one presidential review board, saying it cannot afford the raises the board suggested.
If both sides cannot agree, a second review board is possible.
